About PMKVY Scheme

Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE). The main motive of this Skill Certification Scheme is to enhance a large number of Indian youth to take up industry-relevant skill trainings that would pave a way and help them in securing a better livelihood. Individuals with prior learning experience or skills will also be assessed and certified under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). Under this Scheme, Training and Assessment fees are completely paid and borne by the Government itself.

In March 2015 the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was directed by the government to formulate and implement the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana. It was to be done through the National Skill Development Corporation. The budget allocated to the Yojana was around 1500 crore. The government planned to target class 10 and class 12 dropouts and lower-income groups and impart skills training to 24 lakh youth. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship took three months to formulate the plan and its implementation started by June 2015. The scheme rolled out from the state of Bihar.
