Import export code

Import export code is a number issued for lifetime  by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) which is required by a business to import or export any good. The import export code which is a 10 digit code is granted within 15-20 days after filing all the necessary documents by DGFT.

Requirement

1. The Import export code is required to clear Customs, when goods are coming into the country or going out of the country when they pass through customs department.

2. Import export code is required when a payment is paid by the importer or a payment is received by an exporter.

Exception : Goods for personal use or defence items are exempted from requiring the Import export code.

Documents Required

  1. Sole Proprietorship
  2. Copy of PAN of the sole proprietor
  3. ID proof of the proprietor. (Example: Copy of Passport /Voter’s Identity Card/ Aadhar card)
  4. Proof of place of business ( Example: lease deed or sale deed or utility bills of the premises)
  5. Bank certificate or a cancelled cheque.
  • Partnership
  • Copy of PAN  of the partner(s).
  • ID proof of the partners. (Example: Copy of Passport /Voter’s I-Card/ Aadhar card)
  • Partnership Deed copy
  • Proof of place of business ( Example: Lease deed or sale deed or utility bills)
  • Bank certificate or a cancelled cheque.
  • Private Limited Company
  • Copy of PAN of the director(s).
  • ID proof of the director(s) ( Example: Copy of Passport /Voter’s I-Card/ Aadhar card)
  • Certificate of incorporation
  • Proof of place of business ( Example: Lease deed or Sale deed or utility bills)
  • Bank certificate or a cancelled cheque of the company account.

Registration Process

  • The concerned parties must file an online application – form ANF 2A.
  • Application must be submitted with documents mentioned above, the documents slightly differ based on the form of business organisation i.e sole proprietorship, partnership and company.
  • After this Import Export Code is generated and is sent to the registered email and Phone.
  • Regional Authority would conduct post-verification of the online Import Export Code.

The fee is  for the Import Export Code is Rs 250. This fee can be paid online while summitting the form.
